My name is Gina, I am a certified fitness and nutrition specialist and the face of Joy Avenue Fitness and Nutrition. I'm a wife, mom of three, type 1 diabetic with thyroid disease, and I teach people how stay healthy for life, realistically! To be honest, staying healthy should be an easy task in life, but has been taken over with scams, quick fixes and smoke and mirrors (what hasn't?).. When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I was told to inject more and more insulin when my blood sugars were uncontrolled, and eat and drink diet and sugar free foods and drinks to control weight and "stay healthy". You know what those diet foods are filled with? Belly-bloating, weight retaining chemicals. You know what taking more and more insulin does if it's not needed? It makes you gain more weight. My life included constant weight gain despite daily workouts, blood sugars that could make your head spin, all while taking care of multiple children and trying to enjoy life somehow. I realized I had to take control of my own health situation, so I took a few steps back and re-analyzed my disease and all it entailed. I found my own avenue to be healthy and enjoy food, which I LOVE. There are avenues to beat the viscous cycles, and I want to teach you the right way, by using your life and the foods you eat to work for YOUR benefit. I believe that health in all aspects of life is a gift given by God that we are responsible to take care of. I will be your guide to keep that gift going.
